A Guide to Your First Contrast (Hot and Cold Therapy) at Recover Well

Welcome to Recover Well, Louisville’s premier Social Wellness Studio. If you're gearing up for your first visit, here’s a detailed guide to enjoying our Contrast Therapy, which beautifully pairs the invigorating chill of cryotherapy with the soothing warmth of an infrared sauna.

Understanding Contrast Therapy

At Recover Well, we refer to the combined experience of a cryotherapy session followed by an infrared sauna (or vice versa) as "Contrast Therapy." This approach leverages the health benefits of both extreme heat and cold, providing a comprehensive wellness experience that stimulates, rejuvenates, and relaxes the body.

What to Expect

Cryotherapy: You’ll experience the refreshing embrace of our cryotherapy chamber for 1 to 3 minutes, where temperatures are finely tuned to match your comfort and goals. It’s an exhilarating way to enhance your vitality and overall health.

Infrared Sauna: 30 minutes of comforting warmth in our private, bed-like retreats where the gentle heat soaks deeply into your muscles, mimicking a sunny beach retreat.

Personalizing Your Session Order

Our advice? Experiment with both! While some prefer starting with cryotherapy to awaken their senses, others enjoy beginning with the sauna to relax before bracing the cold. If you’re not sure which to start with, we encourage you to try both sequences during different visits to see which suits you best. Our staff is here to guide you based on your preferences and wellness goals, allowing you to customize your visit right from the start.

How to Prepare

Suitable Clothing:

For both cryotherapy and sauna sessions, swimwear or athletic wear is ideal. Choose outfits that expose the skin for an effective cryo treatment while maintaining modesty standards akin to those at a public pool. We will provide you with ear coverings, gloves, socks and proper footwear to keep your extremities warm. You’ll also be provided with a robe for added privacy when entering and exiting the cryo chamber. Each sauna session is conducted in your own private room.

Before Your Visit:

  • Hydrate: Drink plenty of water as hydration affects how you handle temperature extremes.

  • Eat Lightly: A small meal or snack an hour before your session helps ensure comfort.

  • Arrival: Check in 5-10 minutes early so our staff can show you around, you can familiarize yourself with our amenities and relax in our lounge.

What It Feels Like:

  • Cryotherapy: It’s akin to stepping into a winter day, dry and crisp, but you'll feel surprisingly invigorated after.

  • Infrared Sauna: More than just warmth, it’s like lying back on the sand under the summer sun, a perfect scenario to drift off into a rejuvenating nap.

The Benefits of Contrast Therapy

There are too many to list and researchers are finding new benefits every day! Here are a few of our favorites!

Cryotherapy Benefits: Enhances circulation, reduces inflammation, tightens skin, speeds up recovery, boosts mood and energy levels, and may help with weight loss by increasing metabolism.

Infrared Sauna Benefits: Promotes relaxation, detoxifies the body, improves skin and heart health, aids in pain relief, and can help with chronic fatigue.

Combined Benefits: Together, these therapies provide a powerful contrast that not only helps in muscle recovery and pain relief but also in enhancing your body’s resilience and promoting a deeper sense of well-being.

Frequency of Visits

We generally recommend visiting twice per week as a standard regimen, but your personal schedule can vary based on specific health goals and how your body responds to the treatments. Our team can help tailor a schedule that optimizes your results and fits your lifestyle.

We’re excited to guide you through your first contrast therapy session at Recover Well and look forward to helping you achieve your wellness goals. Join us to not just feel better, but to live well, connect, and recover well.
